MIFF 2008 Wrap-Up
MIFF 2008 has come and gone. With over 9000 admissions, 60+ visiting filmmakers and nearly 100 films, the 11th Annual MIFF was the biggest and best yet. Special thanks to all of the sponsors, volunteers, and individuals who made this year's event such a tremendous success.

MIFF 2008 Audience Favorite Award
37 of this year's 44 eligible films received votes for the annual Audience Favorite Award, but the following were the top three:
1st Place: Phoebe in Wonderland
2nd Place: Romance and Cigarettes
3rd Place: In a Dream

John Turturro Receives 2008 Mid-Life Achievement Award
John TurturroOn Thursday, July 17, the Maine International Film Festival presented the 2008 Mid-Life Achievement Award to one of independent cinema's finest actors and directors, John Turturro in a packed Waterville Opera House. Turturro is a Golden Globe Nominee, an Emmy Winner and a Cannes Film Festival Best Actor Award Winner. He has appeared in over 60 movies and has become a regular in the thought provoking films of Spike Lee, including his role as the highly agitated "Pino" in Do the Right Thing (1989), and as a confused boyfriend in Jungle Fever (1991) ... FireflyFireflies Youth Film Program
For the third consecutive year, the Fireflies Youth Film Program of MIFF proudly brought films from around the world to the young people of Central Maine. In addition to offering a wonderful variety of films for youth of all ages (check out the Fireflies page of this site), Fireflies also partnered with Freshwater Arts in Downtown Waterville to offer a special workshop in filmmaking for children.
