![]() USA 1967 35 mm 112 Minutes In English Director: Arthur Penn Screenplay: David Newman, Robert Benton Producer: Warren Beatty Principal Cast: Warren Beatty, Faye Dunaway, Michael J. Pollard, Gene Hackman, Gene Wilder, Estelle Parsons Print Courtesy: Warner Brothers Classics It’s entirely possible that Bonnie and Clyde is the most influential movie ever made. 42 years after it shook the world, it remains one of the best, and its power in this archival 35mm print is astonishing on the 2009 big screen. Based on real-life Depression-era bank robbers, Penn’s triumph gives us romantic but very human anti-heroes, all the more amazing for their vulnerability. Though Warren Beatty’s dazzling good looks and Faye Dunaway’s sexy early media-manipulation are the charismatic center of the film, the supporting cast, including Gene Hackman, Michael J. Pollard, Oscar winner Estelle Parsons and, in his first screen role, the very droll Gene Wilder, help make Bonnie and Clyde what it is—an enduring legend.
