Arshak Amirbekyan charmed everyone on his first visit to MIFF from his native Armenia with both his film, Three Evenings, and his presence. His new film, Mariam’s Day Off, is shot in stunning black and white, and equally sure to captivate. Without ever going where the audience imagines it’s going to go, Mariam’s Day Off follows a lovely young prostitute who meets an artist in a park one day, is invited home by him not for sex but as a model, and gains entree into a new world for her, one of artists and bohemians.
